To strengthen our experimental team in the context of the recently started ERC Synergy Grant project "ThoriumNuclearClock" we are offering 2 PhD positions:
1 PhD Position (TVL-E13, 65%, 3.5 years)
Understanding surface effects on the lifetime of 229mTh and characterization of a new experimental setup comprising a recoil ion source and a cryogenic Paul trap for laser-based 229mTh manipulation
1 PhD Position (TVL-E13, 65%, 3.5 years):
Preparation of Sr/Th sympathetic laser cooling and measurement of the ionic 229mTh lifetime
