Dr. Würl received the price (granted by the Behnken-Berger Foundation and endowed with 10.000.- EUR) for his doctoral thesis "On the Spectrometry of Laser-Accelerated Particle Bunches and Laser-Driven proton radiography", successfully defended at LMU with "Summa cum Laude" in September 2018.

The interdisciplinary thesis project, connecting Medical Physics with the research fields of laser-ion acceleration and detector technology, was the result of the fruitful collaboration between the LMU medical physics group of Prof. Katia Parodi, the group for laser-ion acceleration of Prof. Jörg Schreiber and the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) of the University of Wollongong in Australia headed by Prof. Anatoly Rozenfeld.
