Impressions from the Open Doors Day at the Chair of Medical Physics
10.11.2025

A large birthday party, complete with lots of information and the motivation to start a career in medical physics. This prospect opened up for students on the 158th birthday of twice Nobel Prize winner Marie Skłodowska Curie on the international “Day of Medical Physics.”
The Chair of Experimental Physics – Medical Physics organized an open doors event to present its research activities to students. Around 100 guests gathered in the large lecture hall at LMU Munich in Garching to learn about the work of the scientists at Professor Katia Parodi’s Chair.

Prof. Katia Parodi, Prof. Peter Thirolf, Dr. Sonja Gerlach, Prof. Marco Riboldi, Dr. Jona Bortfeld, and PD Dr. George Dedes showcased medical physics and presented their research in exciting lectures. In between, there was a cozy snack break and a poster session with open and stimulating conversations. Moreover, the guest students had the opportunity to visit exemplary laboratories of the Chair and relevant research facilities at CALA. Katia Parodi’s team was delighted with the great response and lively interest in its research. The group would be happy to welcome some of the attendees back to the Chair in the near future, e.g., for an internship or a thesis project.
