13.09.2024
From September 11-14 the 5th European Congress of Medical Physics (ECMP) of the European Federation of Medical Physics (EFOMP) was held together with the Trination Congress of the German, Austrian and Swiss Medical Physics Societies at the Science Congress Center Munich in Garching. This large-scale event brought together over 1800 participants from all across Europe and beyond, including several joint sessions with different international sister organizations and a large industrial exhibition. The opening session, jointly chaired by the congress presidents Prof. Prezado (president of ECMP 2024) and Prof. Parodi (president of the Trination Congress and local organizing committee), featured a welcome address by University Vicepresidents Prof. Francesca Biagini (LMU) and Prof. Gerhard Kramer (TUM), along with a pre-recorded message from the 2023 Nobel laureate Prof. Ferenc Krausz, as can be seen below.
Besides the broad scientific program, the conference also offered lab tours to major infrastructures on the Garching campus, like the Centre for Advanced Laser Applications (CALA) and Laboratory for Extreme Photonics (LEX), the Munich Compact Light Source (MuCLS) and the the research neutron source FRM II. The picture below shows a visitor group inside the ATLAS laser clean room of CALA.
