ERC Consolidator Grant awarded to Prof. Katia Parodi

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a Consolidator Grant to Prof. Katia Parodi to further strengthen her research activities on high-precision image-guided radiation therapy.
In her project SIRMIO she plans to develop together with her team a prototype research platform, which will enable more accurate investigations of the biological effects of proton beams in animal models. This way, it should become possible to access new experimental insights to unravel the complex mechanisms of radiation damage in target and non-target tissues, contributing to the understanding of proton-induced radiation action in tissue and the difference to the photon beams conventionally used in radiation therapy.
