New Georg Forster Research Fellow: Dr. Mohammed Safari

Photo  We warmly welcome Dr. Safari, who joined our team in February 2018 for a 2 years research project funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

"I am grateful to be a recipient of the 2017 Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation was established by Germany in order to promote international cooperation in research, which provides an excellent opportunity for researchers to carry out long-term research project in Germany. This fellowship will enable me to carry out a two-years research project at the department of Medical Physics of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU).

I received my bachelor in Medical Radiation Engineering from university of science and research, Iran in Sep 2009 and master degree from University of Malaya, Malaysia in Feb 2012 in Biomedical Engineering. I received the Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Malaya in 2016. My Ph.D. research was focused on real-time patient dose measurement during neuro-interventional radiology procedures, and modeling and fabrication of an eye lens radiation dose protection for patients undergoing these procedures and also fabrication of an anthropomorphic phantom for accurate organ dose measurement.
I am grateful to be a member of Prof. Dr. Katia Parodi's research team at LMU, as one of the world-leading group in providing computational modelings and experimental developments for in-vivo ion range monitoring during hadron therapy. My research will focus on the study of a hybrid prompt-γ and PET imaging technique for in-vivo range verification in order to explore and enhance the performance of this technique and eventually the result of this study will be beneficial to improve the accuracy of the ion range monitoring during hadron therapy and consequently will improve the quality of treatment outcome for cancer patients."
