Precision Mass Measurements with Penning Traps
Penning ion trap systems are capable of high precision nuclear mass measurements. Nuclear ground state properties like masses represent key information at the borderlines of nuclear existence. Ion traps provide a powerful tool set to determine such properties with very high precision. Our group is operating a Penning ion trap system in Garching and is part of the SHIPTRAP collaboration running a Penning trap system at GSI/Darmstadt.
